Cut to the quick

The scene: Mama is singing Z. her bedtime song. There has been some debate about which verses will be sung.

Z: It seems to me ... I don't like you.

S: Oh?

Z: I sink dat maybe some kids like dair parwents and some kids don't like dair parwents.

S: (laughs and kisses Z.)

Z: Cuddle me!

I love those conversations, even though they can make your stomach flip-flop for an instance. It's experimenting, isn't it? trying to find out exactly what the expression means. The first time dudelet told me "I don't love you" something must have shown on my face because he immediately said "I'm only joking!" and flung his arms around me...

That is funny and horrifying.

She still loves you, right?

Smartass.
But I agree-- she is testing limits and looking for reaction. Still-- smartass. :)

I'm thinking there might be some context here...but, still, little devil.

Oh, she's totally experimenting with the buttons, and how to push them.
