Detoxing

In my case, the addictions are pretty mild. Chocolate, green tea, baked treats. But I have slipped into relying on them to get through my day and my emotional stability is more than a little shot. So I'm going off of sweets, caffeine, white flour. Day 1 today.

This is what it looks like in my head right now:

Sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, shoogar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, SUGAR, sugar, SUGAR, sugar, SUGAR, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, suuuuuuuuugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, Sugar, sugar, SUGARSUGARSUGAR, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar, c'mon, just one little Swedish fish and no one will know.

And dark chocolate is practically a vitamin.

Green tea for you.

Maggie, my caffeine addiction runs deep--I tell myself it's okay to just have one green tea a day, and then I get all whacked out and I'm up to three of those 16 ozs Honest Teas a day plus a couple of mugs of hot tea. And then I might as well be drinking coffee. I'll go back to it when I've been clean for a few weeks, because I always do, but I can't just scale back to moderation. I have to go to zero for awhile.

Oh, I've been there. Frequently. The thing to remember is that protein and vegetables are your friend.

Sugar is not your friend. Sugar is the mean dope pusher that will kick you and make you cry.

That said, I can't live without Green & Black's 70% dark chocolate for more than a week. Mostly, it is the only sugar I let myself have.

Best of luck!

I know what you mean! I'm back in a vicious circle of drinking cappuccinos in the morning to deal with the first round of meetings then hitting them again plus tea in the afternoon to simply stay awake. And a good diet has gone by the board all too often! I need to back on my green tea habit.

I'm with you. Never been a caffine addict - well except for that week in college when I stayed awake to finish my thesis - but I think that must have kicked it out. White flour - in the form of bread or pasta - and of course sugar in the form of chocolate. But I have cut back almost entirely when I have control over what my meal choices are. Visiting not totally sympathetic family and conferences however are a killer for me. So I wish us both courage and support. - AJ
